The Best Tips for a Successful Day as a Stay-at-Home Mom

There are a lot of different ways to be a successful stay-at-home mom. Some days it may feel like you’re juggling a million different things and other days it may feel like you’re just getting by. However, here are some tips that can help you have a successful day as a stay-at-home mom.

Get up early

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s important to get up early so you can get a jump start on your day. This will allow you to get things done before the kids wake up and also give you some time to yourself. This is number one for me! I would say 98% of the time that I continuously hit the snooze or just forgot to set my alarm, my day was never as good as the days I woke up early.

I specifically use this hour or two for my quiet time with God, studying His word, and praying without ceasing. When I compare my current season of life (consistently spending time with God) vs when “I had the time” (sporadically, not really making it a priority), my days are much more enjoyable, and I am better equipped to handle whatever comes my way.

Get dressed and ready for the day

It’s important to get dressed and ready for the day, even if you’re just staying at home. This will help you feel put together and ready to tackle whatever the day may bring. Plus, it’ll be one less thing you have to do when the kids wake up.

When I first became a stay-at-home mom, I would be running on very little sleep, showers, and practically anything to do with self-care. It’s understandable that moms put everyone else’s needs before their own, but this is not beneficial. You must also take care of yourself if you are to give so much of yourself to others.

Have a nutritious breakfast

Starting your day off with a nutritious breakfast is a great way to set the tone for the rest of the day. It’ll give you energy and help you stay focused on what you need to get done. Plus, it’s a good way to start teaching your kids about healthy eating habits.

There are many different ways to have a nutritious breakfast, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Some of the best breakfast foods are those that are high in protein and fiber. Eggs are a great example of a high-protein breakfast food. They are packed with nutrients, and they’re relatively low in calories. Another good breakfast option is oatmeal. Oatmeal is high in fiber, and it’s a slow-digesting carbohydrate, which means it will help keep you feeling full.

Plan out your day, including what you’ll be working on and when you’ll be taking breaks

It’s important to plan out your day so you can stay on track and be productive. Make sure to include time for breaks, though, so you don’t get too stressed out. And, if possible, try to schedule some fun activities into your day so you can enjoy your time with your kids.

We are a homeschooling family of 6 so a lot of breaks are definitely encouraged in our home. We are all more pleasant to be around when we get a little time to rest and refresh.

My husband’s work is remote, so he and I try to create a schedule where one of us watches the kids and the other one gets an extended break. He will often go for long walks or runs, and I will also try and get some exercise in as well. If you do not have someone in your home to help with obtaining breaks, reach out to a friend or family member. Set up a time where you can watch their kids for 1-2 hours while they get a break and then alternate. A little bit of away time can do amazing things for your well-being and also those who come in contact with you!

Take care of any errands or housework that needs to be done

If you have errands or housework that needs to be done, try to get it out of the way early in the day. This will help you free up some time later on for other things. Plus, it’s always nice to check things off of your to-do list.

We have finally made checklists for everyone in our household. Mom and Dad no longer have to remind the children all day long what needs to be done, we now just say, “Did you get everything on your checklist done?” They are also motivated to do their chores early too because we do not let them have their electronic time until everything else is done.

Spend time with your kids, whether it’s playing games, reading books, or going outside

Spending time with your kids is a great way to bond and create lasting memories. Plus, it’s important for their development. So, make sure to schedule in some quality time with your kiddos every day.

This may seem like a silly thing to say as most of us love spending time with our kids but trust me, some days are so busy you’ll wonder if you even brushed your teeth, ate lunch, or paid the bills so definitely schedule that play time. Your children long for your undivided attention and it’s a great way to stop and enjoy the little things.

Conclusion

Following these tips will help you have a successful day as a stay-at-home mom. However, it’s also important to be flexible and go with the flow. Some days will be easier than others, but as long as you try your best, you’ll be doing great. So, don’t be too hard on yourself and enjoy this time with your family. Thanks for reading!
